Part-time or full-time? Which type of worker do you want to hire?
The trend among our clients is that more and more companies are looking to hire full-time workers. As we work together to develop a hiring plan based on these preferences, there is one thing we need to keep in mind. "How many full-time workers there are in the hiring market?"
We analyzed the data of 17,212 applications for employment at our clients from 2013 to 2021, and found that 37% of candidates were full-timers. This means that if you want to hire full-timers, you have to target about 1/3 of the market.
Of course, the target is further narrowed down depending on the type of job and conditions of the recruitment. For example, according to another survey we conducted, only 1.4 out of every 100 applicants want to be full-time dishwashers, which is like searching for a drop in the ocean.
Furthermore, after COVID-19, more and more companies are seeking full-timers in order to get government support. However, the market has become even tougher and the percentage is even lower, with 33% preferring to work full-time when the analysis is focused on post-COVID-19 data.
It is important to keep these data-driven facts in mind when planning your recruitment.
